Certification

VicForests is certified to the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS).

Forest management certification provides a guide for those wishing to purchase timber from legal and well managed sources.

Certification provides an unambiguous statement that wood production is well managed according to a set of clearly defined environmental, economic and social standards that support sustainable forest management.

VicForests' AFS certification provides consumers with an assurance that our activities have been independently assessed as sustainable against world standards.

The AFS is recognised by the world's largest forest certification scheme - the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC). This means that the AFS has been examined by the PEFC and qualifies to its high international standards of Sustainable Forest Management.

PEFC has an international has a membership of independent national forest certification systems that account for over 230 million hectares of certified forests producing millions of tonnes of certified timber to the market place.

Look out for either of these two symbols when you next purchase a wood product.
