Protecting Special Areas
To ensure that any coupe that is to be harvested will not damage a reserve or conservation area, the Department of Sustainability and Environment considers all available timber resource data, the reserve system set by the Regional Forests Agreement and the parameters set by the Code of Practice for Timber Production.
Strict limits are imposed on harvesting in water catchments or areas that contain special values. Special Protection Zones prohibit all timber harvesting activities and are used to protect the most sensitive areas.
