Sales and Supply

VicForests harvests an estimated 1.8 million cubic metres of timber each year utilising globally recognised and nationally certified sustainable forestry methods.

The timber harvested originates from State forest allocated to us by the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE). After harvesting we regenerate the forest using the latest silvicultural methods and, once satisfied that regeneration is successful, the control of the land is returned to DSE.

Our timber product range includes varying grades of Ash and mixed species sawlog and pulplog.

We deliver timber products commercially on a 'mill door' basis. Sales are conducted using an on-line auction system - auctions are usually conducted annually with special products or spot sales offered as they become available.

Prior to the introduction of the new Auction system, timber sales were conducted on an administered licence basis. In 2007/08 existing licence contracts made up 10% of sawlog sales. These contracts are currently being phased out but will continue until 2010/11 as part of the transition process.
