Proposed changes to the Timber Release Plan
We are now reviewing submissions.
TRP overview
The TRP covers areas where we may conduct operations in state forests, including timber harvesting, and is updated regularly as part of our ordinary planning process. These areas that have been allocated to us by a government Allocation Order, or via special authorisation. The Allocation Order, as amended in 2019, is made by the Minister for Agriculture under Part 3 of the Sustainable Forests (Timber) Act 2004.
The public consultation for the Timber Release Plan (TRP) is now closed.
VicForests is conduced its public consultation on proposed changes to the TRP from 15 March 2022 to 12 April 2022 to ensure suitable input and comment from affected and interested parties, including the community.
Public consultation and stakeholder feedback on the proposed changes to the TRP is an important part our planning process. During this consultation period we are seeking coupe-specific feedback on matters that should be considered in deciding whether to include specific areas in the plan or as part of more detailed planning undertaken prior to commencement of activities in the proposed new areas.
For example, coupe-specific feedback may relate to:
- timing of harvesting operations
- haulage routes
- proximity of proposed harvesting to private property or public use areas
- identification and protection of forest values within specific harvesting sites.
Feedback from the consultation process will be assessed and relevant information fed back into our coupe planning process prior the TRP being approved by the VicForests Board.
All VicForests’ harvesting operations comply with the requirements outlined within the State’s primary regulatory document, the Code of Practice for Timber Production 2014 (amended 2021) (the Code) and the associated Management Standards and Procedures for timber harvesting operations in Victoria’s State forests 2021 (MSPs) in addition to VicForests’ own adaptive management procedures.
Prior to harvesting all coupes undergo detailed planning.
The TRP supports the ongoing responsible supply of timber to local customers and contractors in accordance with the Victorian Forestry Plan.
