Investigations
Due to the nature of the industry, it is important that VicForests address a third party allegations in a timely and direct manner. The Native Forestry Industry is highly regulated and is also heavily scrutinised by third-party stakeholders. If VicForests receives an alleged breach from a third party, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is notified and the claim is investigated and the findings appropriately communicated.
Investigation example
VicForests and DELWP undertook investigations into three allegations against the Code of Practice for Timber Production (the Code) in relation to operations in a VicForests coupe in East Gippsland. They included:
1. A stand of rainforest was harvested within the coupe
2. A stand of rainforest was not identified and excluded from planned harvesting in the south east corner of the coupe
3. A waterway was not identified or protected within the coupe
Investigations by both DELWP and VicForests found that no breach of the Code could be determined. Please see the allegations and final copies of the reports below. Please note the reports have been redacted for privacy reasons.
